South Downs Cottage Kitchen & Utility

Bespoke kitchen cabinetry designed and created by us for a beautiful cottage in the South Downs. The interiors for this project, all designed by our clients, were considered and sympathetic to the property and they certainly have the eye for what looks good. Our handmade shaker style kitchen cabinetry was chosen to fit seamlessly within this newly renovated space.

The brief for the project was the epitome of cottage core interiors and that continued through to the kitchen cabinetry with tongue and groove panelling above the base cabinets all hand painted in with the cabinetry colour ‘Old White’ by Farrow & Ball. Our clients used the same colour throughout the walls and woodwork and the result is so effective – although an understated colour, it adds continuity throughout the kitchen and living space. Open shelving was fitted throughout the room to dress with a wonderful selection of crockery and ceramics.

A generously sized prep table is the centre piece of the design and is a great alternative to a kitchen island. It’s open and airy and feels a touch more casual than an island which suits the relaxed and welcoming feeling to these interiors. We included 3 spacious drawers on the cooking side and there’s a large slatted open shelf below. We re-purposed an old table top our clients saved from their previous home which is a feature we love and adds such a personal touch to the design.

A tall run of bespoke cabinetry houses two large larder units – each with shelving, internal drawers and door racks for oils and spices. Pretty decorative cut outs were designed for the shaker door panels – a traditional feature which adds ventilation to the design.

Alongside the shaker style kitchen cabinetry we also created a boot room and utility space. The design for this was tricky to navigate with a small space, pipe work and a boiler to consider however the finished space accommodates a boot room area, housing for appliances, tall utility storage and open shelving. We’re really pleased with the finished space and it feels very much in keeping with the interiors – cladded from floor to ceiling with tongue and groove to tie the space together.

This project was a joy to work on and seeing the finished space filled with our clients belongings and personal touches and being used and enjoyed, really is one of the best parts of our jobs.
